A small archival clip in B/W with, I think, Birju Maharaj in a dancing role near the end. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. Jashn-E-Wajid Ali Shah. Nick
He is Pt. Birju Maharaj ji and the female dancer is Smt. Bharti Gupta, former guru at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. I know them both since childhood. MANSI DABRAL
yes he is birju Maharaj, here he performing the role of late Shri Thakur Prasad , his great grand grand father, who was teacher of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah.
The Nawab certainly increased its popularity & composed many songs & dances featuring Hindu themes even though he was a Muslim ruler.

@koolkathak
So popular history has it that it was the patronage of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah--last ruler of Oudh--that saw Kathak dance reach its apogee?
