@MobyGamer Thank you for the answer. I did notice it uses a number of different characters, and that is why I called it just generically "text mode" (which would still have been accurate even if it used just block/solid/shaded characters) instead of something that would be more accurate if it only used those particular characters (I cannot right now think of what is the term for that though). Allright.

40x25 text mode, right? How much space did the video (&audio) take? How did you compress it?

@Bisqwit All answers are revealed in my presentation on how I originally did this. Search The Internet Archive for "8088 Corruption Explained" and snag the mpeg-2 version (highest quality, all 60 fields intact) and it should answer all of your questions.

@Bisqwit Specific answers to your questions: 40x25 yes but it uses more than just the block/solid/shaded characters. Audio+video was 14MB. It is uncompressed because this particular playback system wasn't designed for variable framerate playback (the video is 24fps locked). It does have the advantage of being driven by the soundcard interrupt, which means it is impossible for the audio to get out of sync with the video.
