Student-Pro Training Demo (How to safely raise pitch quickly in less than an hour).

1943 P.A. Starck 37" Spinet
100-285 cents flat.
First pass using Reyburn Cybertuner takes 45 mins.
This video segament begins at the 31 min. mark @ A-5 (2 octaves from top of scale) measuring 185 cents flat with overpull capped at +35 cents. Tuning "technique" was slightly altered (and slowed) to allow for camera angle/position, which put the laptop out of a user friendly position. "Ecomomy of Motion" considerations would normally use the "left" hand to "manually" change note selection in EXTREME pitch corrections, such as this.

This piano had most likely not been tuned in over 40 years. My personal record is 50 years without tuning!

1st. Tuning pass Raises pitch.(+/- 30 cents) 40-60 min.;
2nd. Tuning pass Equalizes pitch (+/- 5 cents) 30-40 min.;
3rd. Tuning pass Stabilizes pitch (+/- 1 cents) 15-30 min.;
4th. Stage (Fine-Concert-Artist Quality Tuning) 60-90 min.;

  • 45 MINUTES for a pitch raise? 10 Minutes for a pitch raise, 40 minutes for final tuning.

  • Dear cjheaford,

    I am assuming from your comments that you did not click on the more info. tab... However, if you do the math it's a minimum of 3hrs. to achieve a Stage III "Concert Quality" tuning result. Stage II is achieved in about 2hrs.

    1st. Tuning pass Raises pitch.(+/- 30 cents) 40-60 min.

    2nd. Tuning pass Equalizes pitch (+/- 5 cents) 30-40 min.

    3rd. Tuning pass Stabilizes pitch (+/- 1 cents) 15-30 min.

    4th. Stage 3 "Fine-Concert-Artist Quality Tuning" (+/- 0.01 cent) 60-90 min.

  • awww man using a computer to do it? i guess people with absolute pitch are useless now :( (cries in the corner) think i'll give it a try though on some old pianos. wonder how it compares to intuition and manual meters.... hmmm...

  • "Garbage-in-Garbage-Out"

    Even using this state-of-the-art technology, one must possess a skillful & masterful touch to set & stabilize pitch.

    It is ONLY a tool! It is NOT the only tool. In the final analysis, only an acutely trained ear with a musician's sensibilities can determine appropriate use for such a device. Better "tools" alone cannot make a better tuner-technician, however, superior tools in the hands of a "master" will indeed allow for the surpassing of ALL previous standards!

  • I have a Wurlitzer spinet that hasn't been tuned in at least 45 years. A full step or more down.

    In watching the video, it seems the software is a key part. While I can certainly tune by ear, I'd like some advanced software to use. Don't suppose there are any freebies? lol. Piano tuning software for even an Iphone is 300 bucks! Got a "a" tuning fork though.

    Cheers,

    Jim P.

  • Jim,

    There are additional countermeasures & techniques necessary for success in any tuning, but especially an extreme "pitch raise," which i do not discuss/reveal. I do, however, show you some "hints" in the demo. The "Reyburn Cybertuner" is a state-of-the-art "tool" capable of amazing feats in the hands of a Master. Like any tool, it has to be used in conjunction with "human" skill & expertise.

    Without this technology, you will simply have to apply basic tuning skills to achieve A-440!
