Most lesions do clear up on their own and one can be proactive with active surveillence, repeat PAP smears. It is not playing dice. Even with the HPV virus, high or low risk, the lesions do clear up on their own. Statistics have shown if a woman is sent for a colposcopy, she will be recommended a treatment instead of watching and wating. Most American practicing GYNs do not consider the neurobiological damage to the cervix and how this relates to female sexual enjoyment or well being.
@abbbbbcd12 And it's true that MOST lesions found do heal with no intervention. But there is a small chance that these lesions grow and become a real threat. Why playing dice with cancer?
@abbbbbcd12 Surely pap tests have low sensibility and low specifity. But wtf, what would be the use of this technique if there isn't a bioptical outcome? People should just stay there and wait for symptoms? And when they have symptoms and go to the doctor he should say: OH YES, YOU PROLLY HAVE CANCER, A SHAME WE DIDN'T INVESTIGATE THAT POSITIVE PAP TEST 10 YEARS AGO, OH WELL, WE WILL FILL YOU WITH CHEMIOTP NOW! Omg dude wake up, doctors aren't trying to kill you
@abbbbbcd12 PAP tests are for SCREENING, not for DIAGNOSIS. Let me tell you that THERE IS A STATISTICAL REASON if colposcopy is implemented in the diagnostic iter. Since today medicine is based on statistical evidence, and doctors DO NOTHING if it isn't approved by specific clinical trials, there's a REASON if colposcopy is used as second test: THIS REASON IS THAT IT HAS BEEN APPROVED THAT WOMEN DIE LESS FROM CANCER IF THEY DO COLPOSCOPY + BIOPSY AFTER A POSITIVE PAP TEST
Since PAP tests are EXTREMELY unreliable ... and even many doctors admit that these so-called 'pre-cancerous' lesions found on PAP spontaneously regress (HEAL) with NO INTERVENTION ... there is absolutely NO REASON to do this.
The FACT is that I and EVERY other woman has a LESS THAN 0.65% LIFETIME chance of getting cervical cancer .... that's less than 1 chance in 200!!
It is a RARE cancer ... throat cancer is more common - do you have your throat tested every year?!
@abbbbbcd12 you are an idiot. This thing is necessary if theres is a positive or dubious PAP test. I don't think you prefer getting a cervix cancer you fool. I don't know why but you remember me all those pathethic animalists fighting against mice experiments, they'd rather prefer to have alzheimer's than use mice to find therapies
PLEASE google 'unnecessary paps blogcritics' and read, read, READ
This is NOT a 'minor' procedure, it is often unnecessary (as HPV resolves itself over 90% of the time) ... this procedure causes various problems that can lead to infertility as well as problems carrying a child to term.
So many women have allowed their cervix to be mutilated without really understanding the risks ... and that Cervical Cancer is RARE!!!
