Richard Strauss: Feierlicher Einzug der Ritter des Johanniter-Ordens (Solemn Entrance of the Knights of the Holy Order of St. John)
Recorded at St James Cathedral, Seattle, WA, USA - 1996
James Savage, conductor
Joseph Adam, Gallery Organ (historic 1907 Hutchings-Votey Organ Co.)
The Cathedral Brass (18 members)
An excellent recording. But, yes, maybe a bit too slow.

This version is a little too slow for me. Michael Murray has recorded an excellent version of it. Bye the way, Strauss was never a Nazi. He had a Jewish daughter-in-law and Jewish grandchildren. He did try to get Hitler to promote the arts and for this reason was lumped in as a Nazi sympathizer but the charge is now recognized to be false.

I believe this is the finest rendition of this piece in existence. I also believe "Great Music..." is one of the finest sacred music albums ever conceived. Dr. Savage is a tremendous asset to the Seattle musical community, and I miss being able to take part in it. Thanks for this post!
