@MRMELTDOWNDOTCOM yep! i agree that they should take it all into consideration. and you are absolutely right about the arm rest issue.

@steppinrazzor Airlines shouldn't have to accommodate people who choose not to lose weight. If you haven't noticed, airlines aren't doing too well in this economy. I think it's only fair that larger people pay for two seats, seeing as how those seats are meant for two paying customers. The money passengers pay doesn't all go to the airline companies, it goes toward fuel costs as well. Now, if the flight isn't full, then I think the larger passenger should be refunded for the second seat.

It's absolutely ridiculous I was asked to leave a southwest flight because I wouldn't buy a second seat! It's all about the airlines milking us for every last dime it has nothing to do with Safety as they claimed! With the increasing size of the American population adjustments MUST be made to accommodate all of us who pay our good money to use these forms of transport!

I think that they do that to make more money, because they know that if a big person want to go somewhere and want to get there fast they can make them pay more money. Hell I am a big girl and to sit comfortable I might need more than 34in., am I to pay for 3 seats ? Thats why I dont fly. not only do they make you pay extra but it makes you feel bad

making someone pay if there is an extra seat available is discrimination. Just like we accommodate everyone else, heavier people should have some type of accommodation. Maybe like a couple rows that have wider seats or something. I know that they make the seats smaller to make more money but I think there should be something for people who can't fit.
I haven't had the experience with Airlines yet but the last time I got on a roller coaster I had to squeeze in it. I have not been back since.

Until we find a way to band together and stand up for a comfortable seat, things will remain the same.

The seeming disregard of the airline industry towards larger fliers is just a symptom of the greater drive to increase the number of passengers that can be carried on each flight.I feel that being a larger size should garner the same consideration as any other physical accommodation given anyone with a special physical need. With the size of the average American increasing everyday I believe the industry needs to reevaluate the policy place for providing a reasonable accommodation to any flier.
This is from a big and tall 6'4" guy. I can see both sides. I tend to book the exit row seats b/c they have the extra leg room and the seats are a little more comfy. The seats could be a little more accommodating but like others have side...the goal is to fit as many bodies into the cabin.

@jTnLV - You are very correct indeed.. I just feel that the airlines have to still consider that paying customers sustain their business.. Big people like us still are paying customers and we should be thought of when seating designs are put in place.. Right?? :)
