It's funny, because it seems like Scientology is at the point where they HAVE to charge exorbitant amounts for their tech, just to stay in the green.

They're trapped in their own system, since lowering their costs to reasonable levels would solve a large portion of their current "flap", but they wouldn't be able to afford to continue to operate and would have to shut down anyway. It's kind of a tragic Catch 22.

I don't know much about price fluctuation under Miscavige, but Hubbard would keep auditing, classes and materials on a schedule of ratcheting up the prices month by month in order to raise lots of cash very quickly. Then when there was the inevitable grumbling in the ranks, he'd blame it on suppressive elements within Scientology, slash the prices to keep people hooked, and slowly ratchet them up again. Brilliant, in a sick way.
