Abuse.....highly overrated.......

@powerliftingmama I know your comment is 3 years old but it begs a reply from me. I was also abused as a child but I figured out something long long ago. We can reply our childhood over and over looking for a better ending or we can move forward. We can understand that on some level we were loved by at least one parent and we can forgive and then let go and move forward. Look at your life now. marriage maybe, kids maybe, Life now is much better only because those days are gone for good.

I think this video wimps out and fails to present the song's message. And what's with the father pouring out the booze at the end? Did the song have anything to do with redemption or change?
It's probably too hard to get to the meat of things in a music promo that is meant to entertain, but it sure underestimates its audience. Perhaps that is the difference, we were naive and ignorant of important issues in the 80s.

Great song, great theme, alot of us grew up with some kind of chaos but we sure did learn alot from all these experiences.Wisdom doesn;t always come in a fun, loving and happy way, sometimes it cost us alot of greif. The price of lessons are usually priceless no matter if its positive or negative.Being a kid is about learning, going through shit and turning it around to help you and finally MOVE ON.

so sorry u been hurt gmama,,so so sorry ,,hope days are let better ,,time will heal ..god bless u

I agree that it shouldn',t hurt to be a kid...life is hard enough as we grow older!
Both my parents were drunks...and I was on my own at 15, for safety reasons.
I felt like I was an adult by the time I was a teen, and I hate to hear of other kids going through this! Support homeless youth!

Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could of been any different.

Their best song ever....surprised it didn't chart better

Yeah, this was a song for a lot of us who had dads who were drunk and violent, but you know what? Fuck them. That's what. We're here. We got through it. We're better than them! I've never raised my hand to a woman or child and never will. I'm nothing like my old man.

The Payolas...another excellent Canadian band. Almost brings tears to my eyes when I remember the good times in the 80's...
