Phygital tour of the MAS museum in Antwerp

The MAS is a new museum in Antwerp opening its doors on 17 May 2011. In order to introduce the MAS to the general public, it is organising a phygital tour, a digital 'live video tour' offered by a physical guide at the museum that you get to control online. It is the first of its kind.

Visit www.mas.be and choose one of the five live guides standing on the different floors of the MAS. You can control one of these physical persons from your computer to take you on a tour of the museum. You can indicate where you want to go with your keyboard's arrow keys.

The guide hears your commands through headphones and walks you through the museum with a camera. Your computer shows the video images the guide is capturing for you, allowing you to admire the collections, discover the building and enjoy the Antwerp panorama remotely.

Five guides are available at the MAS from Tuesday to Sunday for three weeks. International visitors can control them remotely from all over the world. It is the MAS's way to give people a digital taste of what they can experience when they visit the museum in person. The guides are available during the museum's opening times from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Sunday 5th June.

The campaign is organised to introduce the MAS to an international audience. By offering a digital taste, we want to inspire people to visit the Antwerp MAS. At the end of your visit, you are offered a travel deal. Online users visiting livetour.mas.be outside the MAS opening times can view previously recorded videos.

The phygital tour allows you to send a guide with a video camera through the museum. It's a world-wide first. Every visitor receives a two-minute session to discover the museum individually. The idea combines a physical MAS guide and an interactive online visit and aims to encourage people to visit the Antwerp MAS in person.
