Hamster Taming and Handling Guide

This ones more in depth, and it shows my hands and what I use for Jerrys trust. I should have been more specific on treat ammounts. Don't feed your hamster 1 treat at a time, break it up, so it will last. I would only suggest feeding no more than a marble sized treat a day, maybe even less. You don't even have to use treats, really, just give a little seed at a time (not a sunflower seed, just a few small seeds from the seed mix will do). I am being very much more careful with Jerry now, because Tom died of weaknesses from diabetes. I fed him 1 teaspoon of food a day, and kept treats far (so it wasn't my fault he got diabetes, sometimes it just is in the genes).

Here is a little advice. Give it a day or two before attempting to handle (I handled my first hamster on the day I got it). Then you have to be firm but not rough. It may be scared and try to run away but just pick it up anyway (don't be scared). Cup your hands around it and then it will get calmer ! :)

@ainerain I had one I didn't even really have to tame. I held her in my hands the first time in the petstore, no negativity. Took her home and still everyday of handling nothing bad. :)

i have had a hasmter for 3 months now , he is fine with my playing with him and picking him up , he will sit in my hand for a few seconds then jump straight off :/

Snooki trusts me already but when I pick her up she runs like a deer I just got her 2 nights ago shes doing pretty good so far though.

btw peeps most dwarf hamsters are naturaly tame so itll take a week at the most to tame it to going on ur hand freely....probally
