Remember that funky old Bowles MSL that I took pictures of? Well Duane Bowles was kind enough to get the thing to fire up and set it out for us to play with! Truck has a Detroit 6-71 motor and a Hydrostatic Rear end, meaning that the rear end is operated via hydraulics instead of a traditional driveshaft (this is what the whirring noise you hear when the truck is in motion). A few advantages to this design is that you also lose the need to have a frame, saving TONS of weight and giving you a low height and very DEEP hopper with no need for a packer panel.

You get to see the full pack blade in action, you get to see the barn doors open, the packer in action, me driving from inside and outside the cab and more! There was too much video so I had to edit it down a little, but Zach has even more from his camera, so bug him a little and get him to upload his videos!

  • that packer is SLOW!!!!!!!!

  • @TheOTTO2732 the throttle control mechanism used to speed up the packer was inoperable since it was a prototype that never went into production so they didn't fix it before firing it up for us.

  • @shadofax96 yeah they m/as out here are really slow!!!

  • wow, that's one of a kind truck

  • How fast can it go? Did you get to drive it on the road?

  • sweet never seen a side loader like that before awsome

  • GREAT CLASSIC!!!!

  • Wow...that was really pretty cool, loved the full-eject design and packer didn't have bad speed by any standards, enjoyed the little ride around in the cab too :) Thanks for documenting this awesome truck, probably was the first full-eject MSL ever!!!

  • There's an awesome truck with an awesome engine... I really respect those Detroits, produce some mad sounds! So were these Bowles MSLs ever put on the product line or were they just a test? Liked the shots you got of the ejection from the rear and front POVs, cool to see the ejector cylinders in operation. Got some nice shots, the driving was pretty entertaining... you guys must've had some good fun! Dwane's a real nice bloke to power it up and let you take it around for a spin :)

  • WOW! That Hydrostatic rear drive sounds sinister, I like it!! That bowles cab sure looks like a CCC & the Detroit 6-71N feels right! That's the best MSL I've ever seen esp with that ejector blade! That's 1 mean truck!! Great Job, 5 Stars & Fav!
