7:48 Why arent any of our kids trying to play instruments and be in bands. Why are they with drum machines and trying to figure out how to get shot at nine times to make a record?" This is a good got damn question!

Finally another out spoken intellectual who hasn't sold out and turned against the vast and mostly denied and ignored African historical contribuitons that far exceed just being entertainers. We have all been hoodwinked. Many of us want to go along to get along no matter how harmful to the planet.

I wish EVERYONE who thinks they know music to watch this video. This gave me chills to see so much talent be so underrated and not have the upmost appreciation of today's industry. But then again, being judged by an industry who is blind to SOUL music is already a disadvantage. I'm glad she measures her success on the influence she has on INDIVIDUALS...'cause she definately brought enlightenment and a refreshing feeling to my SOUL! I LOVE LALAH HATHAWAY!....One of the best artists of all time!

OMG...YOU ARE IT!!!!!! If people don't get IT...then they don't know music...and I'm not just saying that because of your dad, but because you are a gifted artist!!!! IT girl!!!! Triple platinum in my book.

Lovin' it! Lalah seems like she's real cool and down-to-earth, level-headed and wise. I've been diggin' hear ever since she came out. Sista is droppin' some science bigtime! Much success to Lalah!

I love this Sister

I really like how she holds herself in this discussion and i love all her viewpoints. I wonder how she'd react to usher grinding on some young teen up on stage :P

So love Her!
Im grateful that she puts into perspective the difference between authentic jazz and instrumental pop. She is absolutely correct. Just because its instrumental music doesn't make it jazz music. Jazz has a much wider range of expression that its players take full advantage of.

@xlmusic1 I highly encourage you to Google a blog that trumpeter Nicholas Payton just wrote on this very same issue. His contention is that "jazz" died in 1959 when people starting desiring the sounds of dead people more than a living, evolving music. He can bit a bit profane, but he's also funny and honest.
