@SkeletonBunny2000 They kinda make a hint for that in the press conference scene and -considering the film is satarizing the alien-invasion genre- the answer is more "Why to question that in a situation like this?"-- Even the reporter asks it and looks awkward, one of many sharp jokes that kinda gets overviewed by the somewhat over-the-top tone of the movie.

@ben445556 Sure does. Not a bad-bad movie though. Anyway, for me the imagery, pacing and music in this scene makes up a lot its Burton-less seen in the rest of the movie; and my best guess is 'cause this film was more intended to be a satire to the alien-invasion genre-- and Burton's not the best material you wanna in a somewhat political and social parody.

It had such promise. But when I finished watching it, I felt something big and empty was missing from the film. Yea it was funny, but when you compare this to Tim Burton's other work, this is no where near as good. I do wish that in the future he will remake this, redo the empty bits, eg. character development, because it has so so much potential.
