A voice very familiar to those who followed the Big Bands of the 1940's belonged to Eddy Howard who started out to become a doctor, but dropped out of Stanford Medical School to follow his first love...music.
He sang with the big bands of Ben Bernie and Dick Jurgens for a while and then started his own band and "Careless" was their theme. His biggest hit was "To Each His Own" which was a #1 recording in the mid-40's.

  • Eddy Howard was my dad's favorite vocalist. His high notes are just beautiful: his vocals on Careless (of which the intro of this posting is taken) are incredible, his high notes rivaling the Platter's version of My Prayer. If you have any live footage, I would love it, of course!!!!

  • LOL, I could only wish to have "live footage" of Eddy Howard singing this!

    Sorry.

  • If anyone is interested, I have Eddy's "Careless", "To Each His Own", and "Sin (It's No Sin)" on my channel, all recorded off their original 78's. Thanks!

  • I was about 10 and listened to this at night when I went to bed on my old Farnsworth table radio. I lived in Chicago and there were programs form all over with this kind of music. One of my favs was from the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chi Town. So many great bands and singers.

  • what a style, such a unique voice. when i was a little kid, my mother and i would listen to him. we both loved his singing.

  • It's sort of amazing how you don't hear him mentioned much these days! #1 hits! Wow. A huge star in his day! I like the "sides" I've heard by Dick Jurgens also!

  • Köszönöm a feltöltést <:o)

  • Today is my parents 60th Anniversary. This was their song too!

  • This was my parent's song. Today they are celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. They danced to this at the 60th anniversary party we gave them 4 years ago.

  • Eddy Howard had The Band Of The Year In 1947 .The Sax solo's in Eddy's band sound a lot like the Dick Jurgens band

  • I just can not tell you the hours of hearing this man at my house in hi fedelity!! thanks for this!
