Pryor Mountain Roundup

The roundup of the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse herd in Montana in Septembe, 2009.
Photos by Carol Walker, www.wildhoofbeats.com slideshow set to music of the helicopter driving the horses in, the horses in pens, including two small foals that were very sore and lame from running over 10.8 miles down a rocky hillside. Images also include the horses in pens, including Conquistador, a 19 year old stallion who is being removed and offered for adoption. Then the release of many of the horses, and at the end their return to their mountaintop home.

What a gorgeous slide show! I'm so sorry they had to go and do this. Wish they'd round up the sheep and cattle instead. They have really gone and messed up the gene pool. Wish I could take a branding iron and get those "cowboys" on their necks. I am the proud owner of a colorado mustang and will be forever an advocate against this!

They don't use branding irons anymore. They use cryo branding.

oh Carol had you not done the PBS series on Cloud (my hero) I bet this whole movement to stop these roundups and let the horses stay wild wouldn't even exist! you and your friends have brought all this into affect and action to help. thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Having hiked the mountain in 2009, all I can say is what's being done today is a real travesty. I suggest anyone moved by this read the just-released novel 'The Last Good Horse.'
