Jim Page - Didn't We - WTO - World Trade Organization

This song is about the Nov. 1999 World Trade Organization (WTO) Conference and the protests that happened on that day. I will let you sort out those details by listening to the song.

Jim Page is a fine folk sing/sonwriter and politcal activist who resides in Seattle. His guitar playing is as fine as Paul Brady (if not more, sorry Paul :).... And the handsome picture is of Jim ;)

This song says, "Didn't We Shut It Down" and reminds me also of all the political activity that happened to shut down a very large nuclear plant in Rainier, Washington called Trojan. I remember in my late teens all the canvasers who stood everyday outside for years asking people to sign their names on a sheet of paper to support a ballot measure that would eventually shut down the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant monster owned and operated by Portland General Electric.. These caring souls loved their environment and wanted to protect it. Trojan was built on a fault-line so if an earthquake were to happen it could have wiped out Rainier and the surrounding area and part of city of Portland, Oregon and surrounding area. After years of contraversies with leaks and repairs, Trojan was finally shut down. However, those people who created and supported that ballot deserve a lot of gratitude for their hard work and efforts, which have done a great service. Funny enough that Trojan monster still sits on the river like an evil dark tower. You have to wonder how a state or federal government could allow something like that to have ever happen! of course $$$. And it is the same in New Zealand.... politicians and governments are the same wherever you go, call them "DIRTY FAT CATS."

@anglinthemtns RBE stands for Resource based economy, its a City created by an Industrial designer ,engineer Jacque Fresco and Roxanne Meadows which the objective is to live on a system which abolishes the use of money, work, wars, etc. There is a movement now called the Zeitgeist Movement leaded by Peter joseph which supports and spreads the word. @TheEbored I thought you were referring to this since I spoke of the decommissioning of Trojan- "Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE)" is a health physics concept introduced in the 1950s, after it was noted that different types of radiation might affect living organisms differently.

Jim Page is flat out one of the best political singer-songwriters. His evisceration of right wing talk radio, "Only Talkin' on the Radio" is the incredible, released long before the rise of Fox News Radio. Track it down and listen closely. "Collateral Damage" which he released after 9-11 with the terrific songs"Long Corner Turning" and "Who Are They and Why Do They Hate Us." Even his early stuff, like "White Shoes Blues." Page is incredibly talented.
