@billhuston not just the gas industry. what about the medical field? i always hear of doctors leaving tools and medical materials inside people. how is that any different? i have 3 wells on my property that have been there for decades. my well water is perfectly fine.

@billhuston yes i've been to Dimock many many times. cabot screwed up when they did their initial testing of the water for contaminates. they didnt check for gas migration. the landowners saw this as a loophole. extortion is the word i would use. easy target? cabot took responsibility so they could continue to drill in the area. there are only 4 documented cases of water contamination out of hundreds of wells drilled. you are going to have some cases of neglect in any field of work.

@billhuston I agree 100% we need to get off of carbon based energy. But no one seems to want to do it at any level, at least where I observe in PA. Go to the Honda dealer and there a half dozen or less hybrid vehicles. Go a mile down the road to the Cadillac dealer, and there are (NO KIDDING) 3 DOZEN new Escalades that get 9 MPG. Of course, I don't think that hybrids are there yet, nor are they the answer. But a step in the right direction. However, I don't think I would leap and buy one.

@billhuston I will apologize about calling PA and WV coal miners dumb. That was really uncalled for, I will admit. My disgust was pointed toward the innocent person doing the labor, rather than the almighty industry. My dad was a coal miner for a short while in the 1950s and a few family members were coal miners, as well. All good people, without a doubt.
too bad there was bad water documented long before they started drilling in Dimock and surrounding areas. They didnt start drilling til 07. the water had gas and other stuff in it for years prior. people need to do some more research before they bash the gas industry. I see a lot of people just copy and pasting stuff they have heard from other people and have no thoughts of their own.

@jbird775 I've done the research, and I've been to Dimock. Have you?
If the water was bad before, what did Cabot sign a consent agreement ~1 year ago admitting they were responsible?
Why is the State of PA spending $12M to replace their water?

@jbird775 It's a big world, and there is room for many different views.
The people I've talked to along Carter Rd. have all said, Before gas drilling, they could drink their water. After drilling, they can't drink their water.
Why does Cabot bring them water, fills their "water buffalo"...
Why has Cabot installed filtration systems in homes (which don't work) if they are not responsible?
Why did Cabot sign the consent agreement with the State DEP 1 year ago, if they aren't responsible?

Wow, and this is somehow worse than the coal mining industry? How come no one ever complains about coal? Just as bad, if not WORSE, but coal gets no publicity such as this! God forbid all the dumb coal miners in WV and PA lose their big fat paychecks so they can't buy their big fat F-350 pick up trucks.

@Dude2Hot2BStr8 I agree with you about coal, Dude, although I don't call anyone names like "dumb". People do complain about coal. There are many activists in places like WV fighting hard to stop "mountaintop removal", like EarthJustice, MountainJustice, and AppalachianVoices. It's very destructive. We need to get off ancient carbon fuels, and stick to living within our yearly solar budget.
