Go to http://www.technomicon.com/TechChat/TechChat-9-19-11.html for our full article on the FAM. First half hour of Ballmer's presentation at the FAM. This year's FAM, combined with the BUILD developer conference is mostly about Windows 8 and the slick new Metro touch-based interface. Metro is combined with a more traditional Windows desktop, allowing Win8 to work on both tablets and desktops, using Intel and ARM processors. Microsoft (and Ballmer) are betting that users will want touch everywhere, not just on tablets, and maybe they will. But just as Metro is on all Win 8 installations, so is the traditional Windows desktop capability (mouse and keyboard) and burdening low power ARM tablets with the capability to run the normal Windows desktop may not be a good idea. ARM development for Win8 seems to be lagging, and most of the demos were on Intel based machines.
