This is the last of the video from my November 7th trip. It's also my first effort with trying to learn Adobe CS4, so there are probably a few things that could be better.

It's nice to see that Dalhart's old ATSF depot is still in use and not a home for the pigeons awaiting the wrecking ball. The local switcher pair had the first blue BNSF paint I've seen, although I've read about it. I was impressed by how little noise the empty coal trains make on the welded rail. The scenery near Boys Town where I filmed the second empty is really great and it's an enjoyable drive.

Amarillo has always been fascinating to me because it was such an important town for the Santa Fe. I recall going downtown to the old office building before the restoration and admiring the architecture. Residents of Amarillo can be very proud that the building was saved and is now a vital part of the city's infrastructure. The yards and shops of Amarillo also offer lots of activity. I didn't see anyone in the tower by I-40, does anyone know if it's shutdown?

The Panhandle depot is now occupied by the City and serves as City Hall. I commend the city for preserving this beautiful building as well.

Once I left Amarillo, there wasn't much action on the transcon. I followed the grain train that left the Amarillo yard off and on all the way to Canadian without filming another train. I was not disappointed though, because it had been a great day overall.

  • railroad buffs i used to think it was all cool ive been railroading for 4 years now and dont get me wrong i love my job very much but its not as kool as u guys think

  • @719bjv112 My enjoyment from railfanning is seeing and hearing the power. I don't have any desire to be a conductor or an engineer and mess with sub-zero weather and idiots at crossings. it's a hobby that I can share with others and gives me an opportunity for a little travel.

  • Yeah I read that in Trains I think . Weren't they painted in Topeka? I thought you'd get a kick out of that when I saw it. 2050 must have just arrived. It wasn't there 2 weeks ago.

  • 1st Coal train:

    Leaders: 8886 & 5672

    DPU's: 5981 & 9934

    2nd coal train:

    Leaders: 6414 & 5778

    DPU's: 9161 & 6300

  • I'm not up on the BNSF loco roster or classification system, is 6300 a class loco? It's a Gevo, but BNSF has lots of Gevos.

  • I figured it was still in use with the yard being so big there. That would be cool to get the view from the yardmaster's office, but we know that's highly unlikely. Thanks for the reply.
