Parallax Propeller PCB gets commands from GUI then commands 3 steppers and a vacuum pump to automatically get the part and place it at its preprogrammed destination. I use Eagle for the PCBs and export the XY for each of the boards I need to build, then import the XY into the GUI, make a few tweaks and run the boards. No auto feeders yet, but on the drawing board, As is with no feeders, assembling boards is a breeze.

  • What kind of camera is that? It has some sort of macro lens and magnifies nicely. Nice work! I would like to make one dedicated with auto-feeders. I already made a cnc mill.

  • @guruflorida Hi The camera is not macro but seems to do a decent job because it has the attached lense. I bought the camera at Electronic City in Burbank. I can get the name off of it if you want to order one.

  • The library is now expanded to include internal part numbers. The Prop is great because it is an 8 core, so one core runs X,. another Y, and other Z, and another manages the data stream to and from the GUI. One core runs the rotation of the needle. I put together the GUI interface, and wrote all the Prop code. I have a guy that is great with the GUI code talking to the Prop, so a lot of the communication part I had someone do since I am not up to speed on serial com on the RealBasic app.

  • @guruflorida CNCPNP is probably using a normal CCTV camera. If you can find a webcam that has a manual focus (often the cheapest), you can actually zoom down to those levels pretty well.

  • Nice machine, I like your component library too! Why did you choose the propeller?

  • I like it a lot. Could you please share some more info about "Z" axis ?

  • Hey - very nice machine! Did you write the software? I'm working on a similar project but decided to use ready-built software and finally got it working... That vacuum pump is loud. If you have shop air, you can use an ejector to generate vacuum with much less noise. Listen to the sound on one of my videos.
