http://ukulelesecrets.org/2011/03/27/ukulele-secret-2-folksy-fingerstyle/ A shortish tutorial on fingerstyle ukulele playing. Warning: there is a LOT of slow repetition in this video.

  • @stryngtheory Excellent. Keep at it! And you ask a good question. Stay tuned to the blog post and I will offer the tab for much of Ring of Fire in this style. But the short answer is I play the melody for that song on the bottom two. If I have time I will add an addendum as well.

  • more of these bluegrass style picking tutorials would be amazing!

    Thanks for putting this together

  • I just switched from Guitar to Uku and so I discouvered your channel. I still like it and hope you will keep on going with it. Thank you for all the work, your time and the fun...

  • Sounds great.

You make a good point about not stopping. When playing with a group its more disrupting to go back and start over than it is to skip the bad notes and keep going. Most people won't notice if you miss a note or two anyway. Might as well practice moving along right from the start.

  • Thanks you for this video, Tim. Well done and explained, and hope you will be doing more. I liked the "out, inside, outside" etc. syllable comparison. I'm new to the uke, and I think it's made for fingerstyle playing. This type of instruction is most welcome.

  • Great stuff! I'm screwing up a lot on this, but its fun to practice... but which part of the pattern is melody? Maybe I'm getting ahead with that question, but for the ring of fire section, or for applying the pattern to any song, is the melody designated to the bottom string, the bottom two?
