Grumpy Jii-san's been watching cartoons for way too long. After rewatching an old OVA set converted into a movie, he's going to chat about it.

This time, the narration is shot along the historic Overland Trail through Arizona's Kaibab National Forest.

  • good review. i haven't seen this baby in years.....and i still own it on vhs. i remember a long time ago, i saw some tv show where these kids went to japan and watched it in theaters.

  • I think I have the LD sister of your VHS.

The Poly movie actually played at Tempe's Valley Art theater in in '93 (the only theater in the valley that every showed anime back in the day.) The limited OVA-style animation was really apparent on the big screen.

  • I remember being recommended this as I'm a huge fan of GitS, but I had trouble finding this OVA interesting. I also didn't like the main characters very much.

You review sums up my experience with the OVA very well.

  • I work with the U.S. Forest Service there

  • you know I remember watching this and liking it. I like anime with action and especially when has a mecha/sci fi feel.

  • Huh this series kind of looks worth a watch. I may just watch the movie though.

Thanks for the recommendation, a lot of these series would go under my radar if not for your reviews.

  • Hey, I'm fairly confident that if Japan can take Blade Runner and make a lot of OVAs, they can make at least a decent hamburger-OVA with...oh, I dunno, 'Dune', if only because I keep hearing about it.

Besides...Hollywood has to get lucky at SOME point! Maybe there'll be an earthquake at Fox studios, and Humphrey Bogart and Charlie Chaplin will reincarnate...yeah...

  • Weren't there other Armitage movies made? I remember seeing one where the the Armitage was married and her daughter was kidnapped...

That said, AIII sounds like Blade Runner on Mars. When'll they make an anime inspired by The Steel Caves, I wonder?
