On October 11, 2008, the Nepali American Friendship Association, headed by Krishna Sijapati, celebrated Dashai at the Monona Community Center in Monona, Wis. Dashai, considered the biggest festival of Nepal, is a commemoration of the victory of good vs evil, symbolized by the goddess Durga who slew the demon Mahisasur after a battle that lasted for nine days. Durga won the battle on the 10th day. Dashai is celebrated with great rejoice by Nepalis throughout the world, including Nepali Americans in the state of Wisconsin.
