What a treat I have for you! A friend of mine sent me this piece, my favourite Couperin piece played by the ever wonderful and enchanting mother of the harpsichord, Wanda 'Aunty' Landowska. Enjoy. I know I will!

  • Somewhere I have read that this Passacaille was her favourite of all harpsichord pieces! Probably because all of the thrillers in both the treble and the bass line. More than excellent timing indeed. She is not afraid to slow down to give that extra tension without getting romantic. It is if the king will enter as in a French Ouverture.

  • Well I didn't know that :) Wanda and I are clearly on the same wavelength!

  • I love her!

  • form can match tenchnique

    techneque can match style

    style can match form.

    but nothing can match timing

  • Hi Chris, I love Landowska's playing, and I love this Passacaille. Thanks for posting this...! P.

  • thanks so much for this information.

  • it's from the time magazine, they have like 35 of this serie. You can find it in google. :)

  • Majestic and effective. It works. Landowska was a musician who could make her interpretations work. Since this instrument's sound is so different from the French instrument Couperin would have used, I wonder what he'd think..

  • and great and rare photo too! (I'venever seen it before)
