I doubt we'll see him, though. Smudger was Rheneas' model repainted briefly and given a new face. And besides, he was rebuilt into a pumping engine. Then again, with the attention HiT's writers pay to past storyline and character development (Which is a big fat zero, and I wish Christopher Awdry would try to put a stop to this nonsense)...
