Air to Assassinate in Open Conflict

Air to assassinate is usually used to kill an unsuspecting target, but it can also be a useful way to wield the hidden blade in active combat. Just run up a wall (or structure, or ladder, etc.) where you can hang onto something. Hold down the right trigger and press the attack button when the controls on HUD show assassinate, or just mash the attack button while holding the right trigger until see yourself leap. Your targets will sometimes deflect your attack, so the key is to learn the best situations in which to use it.

Your attackers do not expect an attack when you are scaling a wall, so they often have their guard down. If you are being chased, your pursuers often are not ready to deflect such an air to assassinate attack. Sometimes scaling a wall will cause them to change direction (for example they may step back to throw stones) which also presents an opportunity to kill. Also, guards that are nearly beneath you seem to have greater difficulty deflecting an air to assassination due to the steep angle of approach.

And, of course, you could just grab and throw someone and then air to assassinate them from a nearby wall, just for fun. Similarly, you can throw a guard over a ledge, and if the fall doesn't kill them, just lock on and then air to assassinate.

This video offers some good examples. At the end, I threw in some extra footage where I attack unsuspecting pursuers by kicking off a wall. This is not an air to assassinate manuever, but it's really fun.

I normally find webcams and the like to be annoying, but the quality in this video is very good for it not being a capture card/from a DVD recorder. There's really no reason to complain. You displayed a unique take on combat!

I didn't know you could do this. In the second game you can air assassinate from the tops of buildings as long as they are not too high, and ledges and stuff. Plus you can air assassinate two guards at once.
