Okay, back on synths after a long break. Today, i decided to continue on the MonoMiK electronics, designing the ring modulator.

Wanting something special, i added some analog switches for gain selection and DC offsets to enable this unit to be configured to give multiplication results in 1, 2 or 4 quadrants. So you can also use it as a VCA without problems and using the envelopes, this might give some interesting results later.

Maybe i even get those CS80 ring modulator sounds out of this thing later :)

Schematics might take a while as the ring modulator is not a module like the other units, it is part of one of the backplanes. Anyway, it is a very simple circuit built around the AD633 multiplier.

I don't know if i want to have both 2Q modes in the final version, maybe i find another nice idea to use the fourth mode as you can also just switch the input signals to switch between the two 2Q modes.

  • Where would I start if I wanted to do this kind of thing? Is it focused mostly on circuitry?

  • @flyingsoundmachine According to your question, you have no electronics knowledge. So the obvious starting point is school, after some years you should have enough basics to answer your question.

If you want to try it without basic knowledge (i massively advise against this), you can find tons of DIY projects in the web, search for ASM-1, this is a very well documented synth. If you have questions, find forums or other public places, don't ask individuals, they might not like such questions.

  • The Picture Of This Video Looks Like DNA!

    It's alive .... It's alive ....

  • @garfrankwyn

I'm super jealous of his knowledge in analog circuitry

  • Thumbs up if you're super jealous about this man's workspace and equipment.

  • This is beautiful

  • Nice to see you're back! Daytime jobs can kill artists u know!! Very nice ringmod test!

  • Cool!

  • Very cool! Congratulations!
