Stephen Wiltshire is a British man who was diagnosed as autistic when he was a child. He's also been noted for his exacting memory, which allows him to recreate [in drawings] vast scenes he sees only once. This video shows his 16-foot-panorama of Rome after taking one helicopter ride above the city.

  • OK, can he do that with some not widely recognized city?

  • teach me, master!

  • how many pens did he use

  • are any of these for sale?

  • wow amazing!

  • What talent!!!!! Almost god like! I hope he continues his beautiful works of art! Does anyone know the link for his manhattan drawing???

  • For anyone who does not know this but might be interested, he is a subject in Oliver Sack's "An Anthropologist on Mars."

  • It's nice and all that some people diagnosed with autism are not markedly different from neurotypical people. But, a lot of people are. Sugarcoating it does not do anyone any favors. Stephen does not have Aspergers; Aspergers is a whole different animal. When younger, he acted like most children with classic autism do, not as a high-functioning child. He was non-verbal, threw extreme temper tantrums, etc. I think that makes this all the more impressive.

  • Sigh... I would OWN organic chemistry if I had a memory like this guy!
