O sensei employed strikes

I remember reading an article by a cop who was a 5th dan blackbelt in Aikido.
He said that Aikido was was fine for restraining someone, but it is useless against someone who is determined to harm you. To do proper Aikido you have to learn the Iwama style or Shioda's Yoshinkan style, which Robert Twigger did ( read ANGRY WHITE PYJAMAS-brilliant book) but I think that you would be better learning the parent art of Aikido-Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu.
DRA is deadly, or Hapkido as someone else said.

@cobrajitsu- I have to disagree. Although pure Aikido (Aikibudo) has no strikes it can be VERY effective. In real life it doesn't look as pretty or fluid, but it can still surprise and throw a would be attacker off balance and into some compromising positions! It's never the art, it's ALWAYS the fighter.

he depends on power

Aikido is GAY.

how many aikido-fighters use aikido in real streetfights and survive ?
not many of them maybe nobody, krav maga or kali is a much better choice !!!

@9riche You misinterpret. Aikido only works after many many years of training and by then, you'll be too old. I met incredibly talented Aikido masters, but those are far apart. The only way Aikido works is when you have harnessed your Chi. If that's what you seek, why don't you practice Tai Chi instead?

@cobrajitsu and how many years have you spent learning aikido? to base an opinion like that you must be highly skilled and experienced in training and reality! i could insult u for eternity but whats the point in playing your game shit why dont you come over to my house and fuck my wife just so u know theres no hard feelings

Hhuh I was just curious cause thats clearly a BJJ mat set up, this guys isn't too bad.
@theexcellentelephant It is not my style, It is the way of its founder who stated your feet were always to remain firmly planted as roots to the ground, and you were not to strike as Aikido is designed to throw or submit your opponent without causing harm, which striking is intended to do. This is why its called the "way of Harmony" his dream was that all people would learn it and there would be no more violence, anything else is not Aikido.

@cobrajitsu there are strikes in Aikido you little mutt. Aikido itself is taught under a very strict set of implied peace and rules. Those of us who do practice Aikido are of a gentle nature. But in a situation where we have no choice but to protect ourselves, watch out, because mutts like you will be layin flat on ground wishing they never chose to mess around. We do not brag about our skills, nor do we flaunt them, or wish to impress anyone. It is elite in itself. And vastly superior to all.
