Vesselina Kasarova in top form at Covent Garden in Nov 2008 in Act 1 of Matilde de Shabran by Rossini... she plays the young Edoardo kept prisoner by Corradino. This part ranges over 3 octaves and I cannot imagine any other mezzo singing this really.... R3 recording.

Much better rendition than the one that I saw....

Pictures from the programme of the production by Rob Moore...

  • Wow, this is an achievement! The tessitura is impossible, the coloratura is truly di bravura and the music is very energic. Kasarova sings all of these tricky notes and ornaments as if they were the easiest stuff in the world. Brava!

  • Fantastic! Wonderful rendition!

  • Emission is not too ortodoxe. However, we cannot deny she has (almost) all the notes....

    3/5

  • Thanks so much for this clip! She sounds absolutely splendid. And what a tessitura indeed... *shudders*
