Oh I am so excieted to see it when you have a couple of inches on the weft! It doesn't have to be finished before you show me. Btw, also think about men's cotton work shirts that are not stretchy they give lovely variety too! Plaids are my favorite! Also remember about old cotton shower curtains (that are not plastic) they can be wonderful for rugs too!

I will definitely be on the hunt now for sheets at the thrift stores.....my husband and I go often to them because we really enjoy finding good buys!!!! BTW, I took off the rug I had started (from the loom)... :-( I can see it puckering already and yes it started looking like an hourglass :-) I will post pics eventually when I have something worth showing :-)

I am so glad that I can help you and others that read this thread! That way everyone can learn how to make one without too much problems? Please post some pics when you have a chance! I would love ot see! (-;

For sure! I have made this mistake before with stretchy material and it was a mess after I took it off of the loom. I have also taught students this but there is always someone that has a wonderful t-shirt collection and they want to make a rug out them only to be heart broken afterwards. I didn't want you to learn the hard way like my other student did. I hope it helps? Try sheets from the thrift store, they are cheap and easy to cut! Just an idea?

I see what you're saying now. Bummer....it was looking so pretty, but yes, I can understand it puckering when I remove it from the loom. I may have to stop before I go any further and just make it like you suggest. Time to look for other fabric....non-stretchy :-) I really appreciate your help. Live and learn, right?

Yes, the reason that it is flat now is that it is on the loom, right? Once you take it off of the loom and have the rug rest it will contract to a tight rug. If you use stretcy material it will contract into a wavy rug that won't lie flat. This is why in the video I recommended not to use stretchy materials for the weft. Also another problem is your edges will not be straight they will look like an hourglass that has tension problems.

I don't exactly know what you mean by puckering....not laying flat?....but so far it is smooth and flat...maybe I'm just lucky so far.....

Just fair warning when you make the rug with t-shirt material there is going to be a lot of puckering (quite sever) that you might not ba happy with the results? Now to fix the puckering problem, you can mix the t-shirt material with pure cotton/poly fabric (non stretchy) material. For example, twine one strip of fabric in stretchy material and then when you add your next piece use the non-stretchy material. This way you should avoid puckering.

Yes, my husband put steel rods at the sides. It was all trial and error on his part, but I think he did a super job. I'm twining and having fun. I am doing it with t-shirt material because I HAD planned on crocheting a rug with all the strips. I have MANY colors. I really want to do a rug with regular material.....yours looks so awesome. That will be my next project :-) I appreciate you explaining the "turn" to me. For some reason I was just NOT getting it!

I am assuming that you have the steel rods in place, correct? If that is so then you need to take the top piece of the fiber that is with the last "pick" (a pick= it is a length of warp fabric that is on the loom) and place it over the last pick and the steel rod. With the second piece of fabric under the warp, wrap the two pieces together like it says in my other video about the process. Then continue. Please see all videos for specific hand movements. Thanks!
You are so welcome! I hope to make more in the near future! So keep tuned in when you have a chance.
