i think that the developers were on an acid trip and decided to make a short fat italian guy and a skinny tall one, and due to the immense acid, they decided to make them have an adventure through a world where there are giant mushrooms, turtle people, and many other crazy things. Well this is all my point of view anyway :D

She is from the Mushroom Kingdom. In the instruction manual for SMB1, it says that the Mushroom King asks for Mario's help. It also says that Bowser used black magic to turn the mushroom people into the various objects found around the Mushroom Kingdom, and that he captures Peach, NOT BECAUSE HE LIKES HER, but because she can break the spell and turn everybody back. For some reason Nintendo seems to have forgotten that Bowser has magic powers, doesn't like Peach or that Peach has actual parents.

thats prob very close to Nintendos official story ,which they wont releasde but, it also sounds alot like my theory. I agree it was probably Kamek's magic that sent them to the real world. Because they were the fabled heroes that would bring down King Koopa.
