Warning: This procedure produces hydrogen gas. Be careful, it may quickly start to burning. This experiment deals with highly corrosive sodium hydroxide so be careful. In this video, i will show you the reaction of sodium hydroxide and aluminum foil. You will need :
-sodium hydroxide
-some vial
- piece of aluminium foil
- goggles and gloves
- a pipette .
Put into the vial some piece of aluminium foil and pour approx. 1 gram of sodium hydroxide into the vial. Add approx. 5 drops of water and stand back. It will quickly produces hydrogen gas so do this step outside or in a very ventilled area because hydrogen can explode or quickly burn. Thank you for watching ChemExperimentalist original video. • @thegodofchemistry Oh yea just checked it, youre right.

  • also it gets so hot glass could break! used to do this in my backyard when i was 15 to fill balloons. reaction is so hot the water boils filling your balloon with mostly steam. however you get enough for the balloon to float away i used to put my house number on messages so people would call me so i could see how far they went.

  • @ChemExperimentalist you mean zinc chloride

  • I just did this! It is so funny! I am going to have chemistry lessons next year. I am looking forward to that! By the way, I thought that my house was going to explode because of the gas :P

  • u sure these gloves are protective?

V chemii som celkem začátečník, sorry for my czech accent :)

  • @ChemExperimentalist - Ahh, have seen them all, (several times!) never made the connection. Thanks. And just another excuse to watch the vid. again - and listen to the music. Love it!!!
