Many in Chicago tell a tale that is incomplete to benifit self as of thier part in House Music history. I refuse to be denied my place in the History of Chicago House due to the fact that I am not rubing elbows with the right DJ's or promoters from Chicago.

This is my turth on where the name house came from - the rest is history.

I never clamed to invent House Music itself but...I'm the DJ that named House Music - hands down.

  • Hi Leonard, no ill intent meant here but is there any chance that the term House was being used by people that attended the Warehouse without you knowing about it? I do not deny that you used the term House to describe the stlye of music you were playing but, as seen in the video, even Frankie's friend stated "music like you play at the Warehouse", when talking to Frankie. Is there a chance the term was already in circulation at the same time that you hit upon the word 'House'?

  • @houzbizness The term used to describe music played by Frankie was "Rice & Beans". Any elder Warhouse party goer will state that to be true. The original Warehouse patrons did not call Frankies music House or Disco. My bigest flaw has always been a lack of proper promotion. If it were not for photos & flyers from back in the day, i'd have no proof behind my words. Farley, Chip E, Mike Dunn and a few others that stated, Leonard is speaking the truth has been my bigest help / validation of my word

  • There's a misunderstanding on my part after checking your youtube page. I do apologize for the rude comments. I never heard of you. I was stationed in Germany and all I played was House (JMF...etc) and DJ Red Alert, Marley Marl..etc.... What I do remember is the lines {Don't make a difference if your black, white, jew or gentile, we all come together under one house and this is fresh)

  • I am sorry for using the term assclown. I am clowning my ass off on the House tip in Afghanistan and they loving me here.

I held a residency @ The Peppermint Club in Bobligen Germany and the Cinderella Club in Stuttgart Germany from 87-90.

Had a ball back then. Now that they use Euro and not Marks, American money does not go nearly as far as it did in the 80's.

  • Who the hell mentioned disco music, I'm talking about 74 - 76 era when house, club, garage and loft music was blowing up. There was rap and disco back then but you have forgotten about those. Don't get it twisted young bro.

  • Old people like me do not use terms like - don't get it twisted. I guess you say Arah Kelly too.........LOL.

Stop sending House Party videos to Streetlife videos too. Hoodlife & House life do not go hand in hand - assclown.

  • ...over 25 years of djing and what I've seen is those who bring it to the table get ripped off by those who are in it for fame. When you are in it totally for the artform, it's easy to get shafted by those who are in it for money and fame. Most are truly misinformed.

  • Truth!

  • Wonder why Frankie dont come out and tell the world it was you by name.. hmmmm

  • Thanks for the videos! I think that in the birth of a genre of music some of the major contributors/pioneers will and do get over looked. I am from London and was first introduced to house music via the warehouse parties the names that were known were Farley, marshall jefferson, steve silk hurley, finegsr etc because they had the big hits. unless your were part of the early chicago scene it would be impossible to know all the key players.

  • I love this video.

  • @wbls1

Dude, you are just wrong. Please offer some kind of reference to back up your shit-talk. I have done extensive research on the subject and the term House as a distinct genre did not appear until '81-'82. Period. Not that there wasn't other dance music before that, but we're talking about House here. Listen to Leonard and get it straight. Long live Jack!

  • @lrmxr1

Will you post your Re-edit of Gramophonedzie ''Why Don't You'', please.??

  • Why put a sign out saying you are playing something & nobody knows what it is? You are trying to bring in people who are interested in what they know. "Oh, they play gabber; let's go. Wow, it's fantasy metal; let's step in..."

  • Yo Leonard.

Whatever you do, continue to make these documentaries. Cats like me who are learning about where we came from on the wheels enjoy your insight.

I had the rare opportunity to work at Imports Records when it was at its last location on North Avenue. Stacy Wellons was the last owner of it until 1993. I wonder how he's doing now... if you happen to know.

  • OK I respect that and those who control the that should give you much props for house music. So with that said I hope you get it and long live house music.
