  • Do you think our Standard Poodle will grow to be protective? You said yours won't let anyone through the door until you say "OK," but our 6-month-old, so far anyway, isn't protective like that. He's just friendly with everyone...is it way too young to tell?

  • @bethandsara ...Every dog is different! Sidney was very house alert and protective from the time we brought him home. I have to keep in the yard when a service person is over and he freaks out the entire time...After they leave and I let him back him, he will run through the house for 20 minutes looking. Once he does make friends however, he is a total suck.

  • Are these good guard dogs? My wife and kids and I are considering one for the future.

  • Sidney is a fantastic guard dog... Although he is a big lovable suck, he is a great watch dog. He wont let any strangers though the front door until I say it's OK.. He has a very deep bark.

  • black standards really are the best.. in general, sweet, protective, clean (No fur). live to about 12-15.. fun dogs to have in ones life.. still a bit wild if you test them though.. smarter than you think..

  • they';re the best guard dogs! I have a standard poodle, a rottweiler, a pointer and a labrador and the poodle is the only one who consistently guards the house, me....

  • @treetoptop i have a little tiny toy poodle, and he is a fantastic guard dog. If he hears one little tiny bump hes up and barking his head off to warn everyone away. I think all poodles are good guard dogs.

  • Simply beautiful. just the way he moves looks like he's floating. beautiful.

  • does he ply guitar hero with you?

  • You got a great dog! Poodles are the best. Anyone who doubts it should take the time and get to know one, And look at the facts about them.

  • @treetoptop what's important to mention that a guard dog is different from a watch dog. While poodles are excellent WATCH dogs, with a bark thats always for a good reason and definitley worse than their bite, they are terrible guard dogs. This is a breed that loves people and is not meant for something as harsh as schutzhund training.

  • My black standard poodle is named lexus and died on may 8 I cried alot and I miss her
