Its people that believe in god that do stupid shit like this. If they only knew that this was the one life that you are for sure going to get, maybe he would re think his situation.

I had several family members die from diseases and shit, recently my uncle died. I feel you dude.

My nan died last October. Had Leukemia, a blood related illness and the doctor basically labelled it as much in her last year, but my aunt and nan did their damndest to deny it was as bad as it was. Denial tends to bite your arse eventually, ask my aunt. Some people accept things and are brave enough to face them without hiding. Your uncle sounds like one of those people. IMO he's wiser for his approach than denying it and to boot he sounds at peace with his mortality. That's brave and noble.
