@ELFanatic I was under the impression the comic came before the series, as the comic's editor/writer was the one who fleshed out the mythology as we know it today.
Depending on the writer, the comic book usually had more serious and WAY more complex stories and ideas than the cartoon. (Again, depending on the writer)
Sure, the cartoon had it's MOMENTS, but it was aimed at kids, and anything that is going after an American audience is automatically distilled down to it's bare bones

@Shaggy72 comic? why does the comic overrule the series? The Transformers started off as a toy line in japan without autobots nor decepticons, just bots, picked up by hasbro and expanded into a storyline which was expressed with the tv show and comics via marvel, same year. Seeing as how the tv series was more prominent, I don't see why the comic would take precedence.
