At Sothebys an anonymous bidder bought a bull in a tank of formaldehyde for £10.3million. The worlds most expensive cut of beef was cooked up, inevitably, by the artist Damien Hirst, whose Beautiful Inside My Head Forever sale of 223 new works fetched £111.5million, a record for an auction dedicated to one artist.
The illustrious Australian art critic Robert Hughes, however, isnt buying the hype.

I don't think Hughes enjoyed humiliating Mugrabi - I think Hughes has been outraged at how such people cluelessly wreck havoc on the art world by promoting garbage, supporting empty and nihilistic trends that misdirect the public away from genuine art being created today, thus causing genuine artists to struggle

How can one be so intelligent as robert hughes and not understand the importance of andy's or richard prince's work? --which, by the way, has NOTHING in common with damien hirst's flaccid illustrations. hate his attitude in this too.. This video mkes Hughes out to be just as guilty of the superficiality and sensationalism he is so critical of.

It is taken from a documentary about the excesses in the art market by Robert Hughes. It is entitled "The Mona Lisa Curse" It is very interesting. I saw it on Ovation TV.

Hughes is not being very eloquent either. Anybody can be reactionary.

Warhol was stupid and DADA was not nihilism. Thanks to Tzara, the movement has a bad press.

Hugo Ball, Dada's founder, said " art, for us, is not an end in itself but is an opportunity for true perception and criticism of the times in which we live".

Come see Dada as it was meant to be - a rage against the banal, the stupid, the present day levelling and conformity ....search London Dada.

Robert Hughes = A revolutionary medical cure for the neurosis that is called 'postmodernism' , I felt sorry for the collector he seemed like a nice guy who just needed a greater sense of taste and understanding of culture. The problem with the being in a 'big city' and having 'big money' is that it doesn't guarantee cultural refinement and taste. What is the good life anyway? What is an authentic life?
