BUT, to say that, "Helio and them never followed the IBJJF or the CBJJF" is just CRAP! Haven't you seen the photo, VERY famous at the Torrance Academy, that shows Helio standing In FRONT OF the CBJJF FLAG!!! LMFAO Your "points" are pointless! Seriously, any jackhole can buy a belt and wear it, but to be RECOGNIZED BY YOUR PEERS, is something special! I doubt HIGHLY that Rorion "doesn't care what the IBJJF or CBJJF care! LOL

@billysue2 Yes it does suck that so many have gone away from the "Street Style" of GJJ/BJJ, but, as with any sport that starts to become internationally popular, it can be "watered down" do to the sport aspect. But, as long as you train for reality, and in realistic ways, you CAN be ready for the street and be "punch proof". I've trained at both types. I prefer self defense and can do without "sport" style techniques, but I train where I can SO I CAN! It's what is available. I wish it was better

Yes, they have both "retired" from Sport BJJ. But, they do have students competing regularly. And, just because you do sport BJJ, does NOT detract from your self defense. Also, Kioto BJJ is taught as it was taught to Grandmaster Mansur, the way he was taught by his instructor, Grandmaster Helio Gracie. I've had the pleasure of studying under him for a short time, and I trained under one of his students for quite some time. I've seen sport schools and street schools. More than 3.

@GJJFan they did and did very well,but havent for about 5 years and wont anymore as they feel it conflicts with the academy ethos of self defense and very few from their school compete.Even though sport specific techs are taught beyond blue belt,everything considers street application,it has to be punch proof.The only other place that does that im aware of is gracie miami with the valente bros.In the whole world of bjj and only 2 places nd their affililiates teach the correct method,its a joke.

@GJJFan helio gave both guys the red belt,the federation is only a money racket,none of helios sons or grandsons are old enogh for their grades,look ar ryron and rener,they dont have anything to do with sport bjj

BUT, Rorion's rank was NOT actually recognized by the FJJ or the IBJJF due to the fact that he had not met the requirements (age, time spent at each rank) set forth in the By Laws of the Federations. So, he was not OFFCIALLY recognized as a 9th Dan red belt, until late 2008/early 2009 by the federations. So, this video is CORRECT in it's statements AT THE TIME IT WAS POSTED!

Grandmaster Mansur got his red belt BEFORE Rorion did! And, he has been in the states since 1999. Sure, Rorion was HERE in the USA before Francisco but he did NOT got his red belt BEFORE Grandmaster Mansur did! Check it out, it's there online. Mansur got his Red Belt from Helio in August of 2003. Rorion did not get his until late October 2003.
