If you want to know, the "jump seat" in the middle is used only an averge of 5-20% of the time as a seat. Yes, maybe they should have a lap belt but it's rarely used.
As a mazda 5 owner, I used it only 1% because I usually have 3-4 others riding with me and they use the main seats always.
And why the fuck is that a thumbs down? People actually agree with the North American car doctrine? Don't you people feel just a tad manipulated or what?
Supposedly, the seatbelt configuration for the 'seventh' seat does not pass North American standards. That's why it's only a 6-seater here. Don't know if this is true.
I *HATE* these car manufacturers. To make darn well sure Americans don't get too much utility out of it, they have to make it a 6 person version instead of 7 in Europe.
Screw Mazda! I am *NOT* going to resort to buying a van or suv to get the utility I want.
Stop toying and manipulating us into buying vans and suvs!
ah so you would be one of those slamming people slamming them all the time as i was talking about up there.... god i really should pay attention when i type
The Canadian GT model has them; they aren't actually the "full" sliders like you'd see on the Odyssey, but I like them better. The door is weighted so if you're on flat enough ground they glide themselves to latch and a little motor kicks in to close them. Way cheaper then the "power slider" option and they make sense in saving the wear and tear on the doors from slamming people slamming them all the time

The Kia Rondo has 7 seats.
I find it more likely than not, that Mazda wants to force you to buy an suv or van if they think you can afford it.

I don't slam it. I just close it gently.

I also have a Mazda 5 too. Mine however doesn't have those vacuum-assisted sliding doors. so I still have to slam mine.

I heard that the new 2008 Mazda 5 will have power sliding doors. Only on the more upmarket versions.
