@Manimal347 gm down sized in 77 and 78 ..there is no way this crappy datsun for 1978 is in the same league
as a buick pontiac or olds..and this will aslo include mercury ..i dont care what this car is compared to ..it was stated as a luxury car..and i pissed myself laffing at that ...a dash full of idiot lites and a remote trunk release and all of a sudden its in the same field as actual luxury cars ???..no way in hell .i guess you never rode in a 78 lincoln town car

@Manimal347 and speaking of bmw..why is it that the mustang outruns the bmw 5 serie's i think it is..pollutes less..gets better mpg's , faster in the 1/4 will out stop it ..oh..and the bmw is..are you ready for this..$25,000 more..you pay more for the over rated., over priced bmw and you get smoked by some kid in a new stang ..i guess if you buy a bmw .you at least have the prestige of bragging rights that well..you bought a bmw at least ..

@Manimal347 speaking of bmw..my buddys 82 was an expensive piece of unreliable shit to fix all the time back in the late 90's..alternator's, clutch , exhaust , ..the list goe's on and on .and thats a car that was about 10 years old at the time..i have a feeling you get your info only from other ppl ....anything you find to bitch about on american cars..i know i can also find something to bitch about as well .just cuzz it might be foreign made doesnt mean they are all built by god himself

Oh, lastly... GM, Ford + Chrysler offered a bazillion options. Offered, mind you. But, their cars tended to come with virtually nothing extra. Often, floormats, trim, gauges and an AM radio optional. And not just on a Chevette. That's why Honda boasted that the Civic had standard mats, cloth seats + a radio. T'was a BIG deal indeed!

Respond to this video... Well, yes, 390. I'm discussing Datsun-era cars. America's nadir. We make good cars now, but not then. As for pushrods? Heavy motor = lower fuel economy plus low revs. Older design. Also, gross vs. SAE. Same pushrods hit nadir w/ 4.3L 85HP Buick motor in 80's. Horsepower in the late 70's? Hah! Even the Corvette was emasculated. Also, Jap. automakers have gentlemen's agreement not to crack 300hp to avoid 70's pony car HP wars. Escort? I mean US Escort, '81-90!

Buick-status? Hmm... dunno. Most the Cressidas I've seen are driven by grizzled old folks. Read, Buick and Lincoln buyers. The 810/Maxima competed with the Cressida at the time. GM heavily downsized their cars around the advent of Japanese near-luxury exports, and some people defected.

No, dude, just no. Perhaps you live in a small community, or a car-friendly one, but I grew up near a big city. A Tercel made great sense for somebody who needed to park the thing on the street. On another note, 70's Japanese Buicks? Yeah, Cressida. It's almost as big as GM faux-lux of the mid 80's, plus so much tech. Yes, 4-speed auto, fuel injection, and the Supra motor! Oh, it could even handle, too. '82 Rabbit friend is mulling over buying the '79 he just saw.

There were great US cars in the 60's. We were world standard with our Lincolns and Cadillacs. Then, you must know what happened. I've actually ridden in some 70's cars, US + import, but I can merely cite experience from elders. The shudders at the word "citation." My parents 80,00 miles Chevette with myriad repairs. Their 110,000 mile Sunbird. My friends '82 Rabbit and '74 BMW 2002 that are a blast to be in. Oh, and my Granpa bought US last with Volare. Never started in rain. Ever!

@Manimal347 i am guessing you are brought up in a household of imports ,,and missed out on some good cars from the 60's and 70's..and you cant be serious about talking of some of these cars ,,some are out of production for over 30 years ..if pushrod engines are so bad.explain to me how ford made a 400 hp motor back in the 50's..they were the first to do that..name me a few toyota's or honda's or nissans that are stock that make 400 hp or more.???.oh.the escort is in production for 30 years now
