Professor Jeffrey Sachs explains why the best way to combat terrorism is to eradicate poverty and make the world a safer place through justice for ALL. An impassioned plea for action based on our common humanity (CBC HotType, 2005). Says Sachs: "If we don't value life enough to pay attention to the 20,000 people who will die today because they're too extremely poor to stay alive, we are putting at risk our own lives and the lives of our children."

  • Does anyone know the explanations for not reaching Lester B. Pearson's end poverty goal? I think that could provide some insight.

  • @Wraith23 I believe ending poverty starts by asking how we can share wealth, rather than concentrate it in 5% of the population. I think it involves examining all possibilities with creativity and negotiating around present challenges created as a result of differences that may divide us or bring us commonalities of mutual understanding.

  • @gaartsen That depends on what you mean by freedom. For me, freedom means what I CAN CHOOSE to do for myself and my fellow man.

  • @gaartsen cuz it's step two not one we can assist them in building schools and houses hospitals ect... then worry about a good government so they can maintain a good economy on their own

  • @Wraith23 that's how they can maintain it independently we can end it by spending money toward ending poverty instead of spending it on blowing them up

  • Fighting poverty will not end terrorism. Getting a good outcome to the Israel Palastine will end help get rid of terrorism.

  • The West has been saying exactly that for the past 50 years or so. The mess has gotten bigger, millions of people are still starving in a world of plenty. We can now witness around us if we leave things up to "the market", because there is no level playing field. Governments and citizens need to do their part in ensuring justice and freedom for ALL.

  • lol?

only reason u r fuck!ng talking is because no one would listen to u if u said it in real life, hope this saves somebody';s mind from getting pollutated

  • What if conditions don't allow you to earn any money, such as the dictates of IMF and World Bank, and EU/US trade barriers?

Real freedom goes hand in hand with justice for all.

  • The little things we can do count... We (Musa and Julia) are a couple cycling the Mediterranean from '08 - 09 in aid of Amnesty International, google our website
