  • People who are interested in finding out more should read the excellent article in Wikipedia (look up "compulsory figures"). It explains why this skill was eventually eliminated (it was not TV friendly because it was so time consuming, and the audience can't see what the judges see). Maybe the uploader can put the Wikipedia link in the Description.

  • Thanks for the post. I've heard of Compulsory figures but had no idea what they were. We just watched the original 1978 Ice Castles so I decided to finally find out what they were. Wow ... I can't even imagine the skills, concentration and control necessary to do these figures. I can't even draw a good circle with my hand so to do so with the legs, going backward, and then retracing, must be unimaginably harder. I'd love to see if the brains of these skaters are differently developed.

  • Very informative and very interesting

  • in the begining he was doing singles. in the olympics. thats what i couldnt believe.

  • Wow thanks for posting this. I never knew they had to do that. I had heard them say things about their figures but I didn't know it was actual ice figures. Kewl.
