HOW TO MAKE NETTLE WINE

INGREDIENTS:
2 QUARTS NETTLE TOPS
2 LEMONS 31/2lbs SUGAR 1/2oz THINLY SLICED GINGER 1 TEASPOON YEAST NUTRIENT YEAST 1 GALLON WATER

METHOD:
PLACE THE NETTLE TOPS, PEEL FROM THE LEMONS AND THE SLICED GINGER IN A LARGE SAUCEPAN WITH 4 PINTS OF THE WATER. BRING TO THE BOIL AND SIMMER FOR 45 MINUTES.
STRAIN THE LIQUID ONTO THE SUGAR AND JUICE FROM THE LEMONS AND STIR TO DISSOLVE THE SUGAR. ADD THE REST OF THE WATER AND SET ASIDE UNTIL ROOM TEMPERATURE.
ACTIVATE THE YEAST AND YEAST NUTRIENT WITH A LITTLE OF THE MUST AND WHEN THE MUST IS ROOM TEMPERATURE ADD THE YEAST.
LEAVE TO FERMENT VIGOROUSLY FOR 4 DAYS THEN STRAIN INTO A SECONDARY FERMENTATION VESSEL AND FIT AIRLOCK.
WHEN FERMENTED OUT, RACK INTO ANOTHER DEMI JOHN TO CLEAR FOR 3 MONTHS.
BOTTLE AND ENJOY WHILST STILL YOUNG. (THE WINE, NOT YOU!)

THIS IS A REALLY EASY WINE TO MAKE AND CAN BE ENJOYED IN A RELATIVELY SHORT SPACE OF TIME.

  • @Sezar538 UK litres you would need about 3/4lb of sugar per litre

    US liters you would need just under 1lb of sugar per liter.

  • @ScottfromTexas I would guess so, there is probably some sugar in the nettles but not a lot.

  • So the nettles are there only for flavor? The source of sugar seems to be the added sugar itself.
