  • And if you tried to show respect, they would think you are "kissing butt". I think that "kissing butt" is a cultural trend too at some levels, but can mislabel someone who sincerely wishes to make harmony with others.

    Symbolic racism in that sense can occur because those who appear to "kiss butt" would excel faster than others in school, work, or other social environments which can create envy towards particular cultures.

    I am mixed but I nevertheless have the habit to say Professor Whoever.
