@windstorm1000 Oh it gets worse; check out the finale of the 2011 Lohengrin, but don't do so with a full stomach.

@JWPhoto Yes--the inmates are running the asylum. One can only wonder what Richard--let alone Cosima--would think. I appreciate your perceptive comment.

It doesn't get any worse than this. If Wagner had seen what his home theatre had done to T. he'd need a barf bag 10 minutes into the production. By all means make the Venusburg into a suburban hore house--take all the magic out!!!

@UlfenDaddy And I do agree that I see no reason why with the tremendous assets of technique, resources and skill Bayreuth has at their disposal to bring these works to Life, [she] would settle for what is patently and on-its-face something just UGLY (did you notice the fetal Duke of Brabant in Lohengrin?) But it's a stylistic choice part of a larger view; I too wait for the demons of Chereau finally to be removed from opera houses around the world.
