This Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Central Park Belizean voters will have a big decision to make. This important decision will change the course of Belize's oil drilling status forever. Belize Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage, will hold a referendum in all 31 constituencies of our country, including Belize Rural South. The polling station for Ambergris Caye will be situated in Central Park.
Oceana took a stand against oil drilling and managed to collect 20,000 signatures requesting a referendum on oil exploration. 8,000 of these votes were disqualified, therefore this action is now solely a people's movement.
Registered voters only will be allowed to vote once but can vote in any polling area. This means that voters in Ambergris Caye do not necessarily have to be registered in Belize Rural South to vote. As long as you are a registered voter, this Wednesday, you can head over to Central Park and cast your vote on whether oil drilling should take place on Belize's off shore.
