On Saturday 4th July, BR Green 'Hastings' DEMU No. 1001 worked Hastings Diesels Limited's 'Midland Forester' Railtour from Hastings to Nottingham.

The outward route was Battle (where I joined the train), Tonbridge, Bromley South, Kensington Olympia, Gospel Oak, Hackney Wick, Temple Mills, Upper Holloway, West Hampstead, Beford, Corby and Loughborough.

The return leg of the tour was routed via Loughborough, Peterborough, Finsbury Park, Camden Road, Gospel Oak, Kensington Olympia, Bromley South, Tonbridge and Battle.

The Thumper was in a 5-car formation, formed of class 202 motor coach No. S60116 "Mountfield" (from class 202/6L No. 1012), class 202 trailer No. S60529 (from class 202/6L No. 1013), an ex class 422 4-BIG EMU Buffet, class 201 trailer No. S60501 (from class 201/6S No. 1001) and class 202 motor coach No. S60118 "Tunbridge Wells" (from class 202/6L No. 1013).

  • Hey, fabulous video of a fabulous grand old lady that I was on too! You can't beat the sound of a thumper in my opinion, they are just fantastic and in a class of there own! I love your website too with all the photos!!! Andy

  • thats was absolutly brilliant, love the thump, it brings back really old memorys of when i used to get on them at polegate to ashford 5* and faved

  • Thanks! I know what you mean about it bringing back memories, being on 1001 brought back memories of when I used to get the 205s/207s from Hastings to Ashford and return.
