@tettie only 19. squadron and may be 64. squadron had got Spits with cannons and only few days of tasting. Not all Mark 1b and Mark 2b were equipped with cannons. The letter "b" meant version with constant speed propellers in the early versions of Spitfires.... The version marked as "a" has got two pitch propeller. The letter "a" and "b" on early Marks didn't meant the armament version as It was used on later Marks V,...

@Nebukadnezarthe2nd spitfire 1b and 2b flew in the battle of Britain and were armed with 20mm. Not a lot of them were active, but they were there. Get your facts straight.
