1st of 3 videos about Gdynia Trolleybuses (in Poland). This one starts in the Town Centre, then moves to the Railway Station and environs, and finishes with some nice night shots.
Trolleybuses are electrically powered from overhead wires, like trams, but unlike trams, do not need rails to run on, making them more maneouverable and able to get round obstacles.

  • I see you are trolleybus fetishist ;-)

Gdynia thanks to its trolleys (and trams) is said to be one of the Polish cities with the best communication systems.

Gdynia is one of only two Polish cities with t-buses (aonther one is Lublin).

Nice vid. Greetings from Gdynia :-)

  • I suppose I could be called that :o)

Doesn't Tychy also have trolleybuses? I have only been to northern Poland, and all the other cities I visited except Gdynia only had trams. Gdynia made up for it!

Greetings from Huddersfield in the UK - no trolleys or trams :o(

  • Trolleybuses are the best solution for mid-sized towns like Gdynia.

  • I couldn't agree more. What puzzles me is why the authorities, especially in Britain, are reluctant to even consider the trolleybus as a modern, efficient, environmentally friendly form of transport.

There have been no trolleybuses on the streets in Britain since 1972 - just in museums like the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft.

  • I wouldn't know much about trolleybuses in Britain (seen London only), but I suppose trolleybuses are seen by authorities as a strange phenomenon (perhaps due to being rare), and somewhat "uncool". When I entered any Swiss city with trolleybuses, the first thing on my mind was "It's like Soviet Union". Trolleybuses are probably hurt by the lack of a sensible support group, and I stress the word "sensible", because a bunch of "enchanted" ecologists are not going to help them.

  • There is a sensible support group in Britain - see web site at tbus dot org dot uk. They argue the case for trolleybuses using economics, as well as pointing out the environmental and health benefits.

  • When this film was make? I think few years ago. You must visit Gdynia today. Many is change, for example trolleybusses isn't stay on Plac Kaszubski (beginning film). Świętojańska street and Janka Wiśniewskiego street is renovate. Trolleybusses go on Kacze Buki district, second line to Sopot. ZKM did bought many of new vehicles: Solaris and Mercedes.

    Sorry for mistakes.

  • Gdyńskie trajtki wymiatają! są najlepsze na świecie!

  • Ups.. You are right.

12 lines in Gdynia/Sopot (another 2 planned to start this year)

8 lines in Lublin (another 1 planned to start this year)

    5 lines in Tychy

In another 8 Polish cities trolleys were used in this century, but many people say today's buses are as ecological as trolleys :-(
